"A Tunable Nd: Silica Fiber Laser"

A fiber laser is a laser that consists of a fiber doped with rare earth ions consisting of erbium (Er3+), neodymium (Nd3+), ytterbium (Yb3+), dysprosium, praseodymium, thulium or sometimes a combination of two or more2,3 as the gain medium. Fiber lasers are wave-guiding structures, and as such can have high power densities in the core. They are based on optical fibers, which in silica, are a mature technology, and can be made to high degrees of precision and with low losses due to scattering, unwanted absorptions and material imperfections7. The purpose of this work is to fabricate a tunable seed laser for probe experiment in new gain guiding fiber being developed. ...full text
