WU TO ADVISE SOCIETY OF INFORMATION DISPLAY STUDENT CHAPTER
  • Professor Shin-Tson Wu, Provost Distinguished Professor of Optics, has helped organize the first student chapter of the Society for Information Display (SID) http://www.sid.org/  at UCF.  The first meeting was held on Oct 19, in the CREOL conference room. This is a great new opportunity for our students.
ROLLAND RECOGNIZED DURING WORLD YEAR OF PHYSICS APPRECIATION
  • The fifth annual Women's Research Event recognized Dr. Jannick Rolland, Associate Professor of Optics for her contributions to the advancement of science. This year, designated by the United Nations as the World Year of Physics, UCF honored its six women physicists. They are Drs. Weili Luo, Jannick Rolland, Beatriz Rolandan Cuenya, Elana Flitsiyan, Archana Dubey and Michele Montgomery.

FISHER HONORED AS SGA SENATOR OF THE YEAR
  • In recognition of outstanding support for the student body and to the College of Optics and Photonics, Matt Fisher was awarded the Senator of the Year Award for the 37th UCF Student Government Association Senate.  Congratulations to Matt and his fine example of student service.
MURALI RECEIVES HIGH AWARD FOR OPTICAL DESIGN
  • Supraja Murali, Master's student of Jannick Rolland, is the recipient of one of five awards offered for optical design by the Optical Research Associates (ORA). Optical Research Associates is the industry's leading supplier of imaging and illumination design/analysis software. For more details about Murali's design, please visit:

  • Florida Trend Magazine named Peter Delfyett, Trustee Chair Professor of Optics, Trendsetter in its October issue.  The full story is archived at http://www.floridatrend.com/. Free registration is required.

 

  • The College of Optics and Photonics is also featured in the Nov 2005 OPN "A Bright Spot."  COP continues to play a key role in advancing technology that has high impact in the commercial Optics and Photonics markets, and photonics continues to be one of the top two targeted sectors for the Metro Orlando EDC for economic growth and development.
